It is the eastern part of the region Westphalia together with the Lippe region. The Lippe region (Kreis Lippe, also called Lipperland) is also the region of the ancient free state Lippe, located between the Weser river and the southeast part of the Teutoburg forest. The major cities in Ostwestfalen-Lippe are Bielefeld and Paderborn.
